A family home should adapt to the ever-changing needs of its inhabitants.
In the medium and long term, this means accommodating children growing up and eventually leaving—only to return later with a partner or their own family—and grandparents who may need more comfort as they age.
In the short term, it means being ready for kids hosting sleepovers, friends coming for the weekend, or a spontaneous Saturday BBQ.
It's not just about space, but how that space is organised—and how flexible it is.
Designing with this in mind starts with those whose needs are most demanding: the eldest. If a house is comfortable for them, it will be more comfortable for everyone.
A gently sloped staircase to the basement—with wider, lower steps—makes the space easily accessible, ideal for grandparents, and perfect as an everyday living area.
A small lift (for one seated person or two standing) isn’t just for elderly relatives and friends to join the BBQ on the upper terrace. It can also be a game-changer in case of injury (especially for sporty household members) and incredibly useful for moving laundry, groceries, or drinks between floors.
This is what Design for All truly means.
Please note that these plans are not fully reflected in the Virtual Tour.
Without a basement, the only floor affected would be the ground floor, which can comfortably accommodate a sitting area.
Relocating the washing machine and tumble dryer to the third floor would be more practical, as it allows for hanging clothes to dry directly on the terrace.
With the inclusion of a lift, using the top floor as a guest room for elderly visitors poses no accessibility concerns.
